NYACP Reoccuring "ZOOM" Meetings
Hosted by the NYC Pod

When All the King's Horses and all the King's Men Can't Put Things Together:
The Client Who Can't Recover

Tuesday, March 12, 2024
8:30am - 9:30am

Presented by

Kathleen (Kate) Bar-Tur, LCSW, FIPA
Elana Katz, LCSW, LMFT

Notwithstanding the high stress involved, we take some measure of pride in the fact that a collaborative team can work toward adaptive and even creative solutions for both clients, and that with the right teamwork and support, people may even thrive. It is alarming to the client and disheartening to the team when a client cannot seem to use our knowledge and skill to find any pockets of resilience or light in their darkness.

In this program, two experienced family specialists will discuss the challenge of the seemingly intractable client and invite the reflections, experiences, and insights of the group to this conversation.

Kathleen (Kate) Bar-Tur, LCSW, FIPA, is a Fellow of the International Psychoanalytical Association (FIPA), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and an experienced Psychoanalyst, Collaborative Divorce Family Specialist and Divorce & Family Mediator. In addition to her clinical work Kate sat on the Boards of FamilyKind, The New York State Council on Divorce Mediation, and Institute of Psychoanalytic Training and Research (IPTAR) where she served as the Director of the Clinical Center for seven years.

She is a graduate of the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research, Columbia University and Princeton University, Magna Cum Laude.

Elana Katz, LCSW, LMFT, is a Trainer and Supervisor in Emotionally Focused Therapy and a senior faculty member at the Ackerman Institute for the Family in New York City. She also completed a Train-the-Trainer Residency in Race and Racial Equity with Dr. Ken Hardy at The Eikenberg Institute.

In addition to her role as therapist and trainer, Elana has applied her knowledge of attachment and relationships to help mediation and collaborative law clients and their professional teams intercept the recurring patterns that shape high conflict divorce. Elana has published a number of articles and book chapters, and she’s been quoted by the New York Times, the Associated Press, and other media outlets. She teaches nationally and internationally, most often in the Midwest and Israel, and her private practice is in Manhattan.
