The Uniform Collaborative Law Act (“UCLA”) is a model act promulgated by the Uniform Law Commission in 2010 that regulates the use of collaborative law, a dispute resolution process where attorneys are retained solely for the purpose of reaching a settlement through interest-based negotiation. Clients and their lawyers agree that clients will retain new counsel if issues cannot be resolved without court intervention. Financial and mental health professionals are often retained to join the clients and their attorneys in settling the case.
The UCLA has been enacted in 23 states and its enactment is currently pending in 4 states. For more information about the UCLA, please click on the below link.
